                        PROCESS

Working on the project is based on groupwork. Before you start, read the evaluation page to find out how you will be assessed for your work.

GROUP I:
Researchers : Use the internet to find suitable films, podcasts or articles featuring remarkable people who, like Aimee Mullins, have overcome their physical or mental disabilities and achieved success. Summarize briefly the films or articles you have chosen. Present your materials to the other groups as they will be asked to prepare products on the basis of your findings.

GROUP II:
Teaching materials designers: Watch the TED speech by Aimee Mullins carefully. Don't use the subtitled version unless it is really necessary to understand the text. Check the meaning of all the adjectives she quotes as synonymous to 'disabled' and prepare a worksheet with vocabulary exercises or other language tasks for your classmates. Remember, when you write tasks for somebody else, you learn the vocabulary items yourself!

Your vocabulary tasks may be in the form of
- gap fills, e.g.:

The horse is l_ _ _ . He has hurt his leg so badly that he will never run properly. (answer: lame)

- matching words with definitions:

decrepit - very old and in bad condition

or any other of your choice. You can also choose for your exercise some vocabulary items from the remaining part of Aimee's speech or from any other short film or article selected by Group I.

GROUP III:
Writers: Write an article about people who have overcome their limitations and achieved their ambitions. Use the internet findings of Group I.  You should also refer to Aimee Mullins's new definition of a 'disabled' person, i.e. the one with "a deflated curiosity" and "a crushed spirit". How would you describe the spirit of the people whose cases you have studied working on this project? What other factors have helped them to succeed? You can use this link to learn more about Aimee Mullins.

GROUP IV:
Presenters/computer technicians: You are responsible for presenting the results of working on the WebQuest in a classroom and  on the college web page. Design the web page attractively. Be selective in choosing materials. As for the classroom presentation, you can combine a Power Point one (including links to films) with working with worksheets and texts prepared by the other groups.
